Tenchi Muyo: No need to School

Review #1 by Nick Perkel

Well, it starts out like this. Tenchi and the "gang" are eating dinner, you have to pick whose dinner you want to eat . Then the next day you go to school with Aeka, Ryoko, Washu (she's a teacher), and grown-up Sasami. The science classes are taught by Washu (if you make too many wrong answers on the test, then you fall into a tree). Other classes are social studies, english, and physical education (volleyball). You can also go to the library, and have lunch with either grown-up Sasami (Tsunami), Aeka or Ryoko. Aeka's lunch is a dead rat, Ryoko's is a toxic liquid soup, and Tsunami's is rice and some fruits. This part is funny.

The second disc starts off with three girls from outer-space (I think they belong to a gang). These girls enjoy to terrorize on different planets, and earth is their next target. After their arrival, the real fun begins here, one girl even has missile launchers all over her clothes and launches them at Ryoko.

The objective of the game is to get through a day of school as Tenchi with all the girls (Kiyone, Washu, Sasami, Tsunami, Ayeka, Ryoko) being there too. You select from two to four choices, depending on your choice, you will see different cinemas. There are tons of Japanese text and speeches in the game, but it is playble for someone who doesn't know Japanese. Basically, you can just click on one of the choices, and watch the cinemas. Most of the cinemas are very funny, and it does help a lot if you understand Japanese though.

Overall, I highly recommend this game to Tenchi Muyo fans, and here are my ratings for the entire game.

Graphics 10

+ The game is liked watching a huge interactive cinema! + Cool new ways to see Tenchi and his friends (in school). Sound/Voice 8.5

+ Excellent voice-acting on the second disc, while above average sound on the first disc.

- Slightly repetive sound effects, especially when you hear the bell ring during change of classes.

Music 9.5

+ Superior music on both discs.

Fun Factor 9.5

+ Very hilarious cinemas to watch, especially when you mess up on Washu's test.

The ending part is hilarious, but I will let you see it for yourself.

Loading Time 9

+ It seems to me that there is almost absolutely no loading time what-so-ever.

The whole disc is loaded all at once and it only takes about 5-10 seconds for a long sequence of animation.
