Bastard!

Review by Tamahome

Bastard!! was a manga that was made in the late 1980s and still in the making right now. The first part of the manga has been made into an anime show, but the rest of the manga just remained a manga. Bastard was one of my favorite manga, but due to its mature subject matter and extreme violence, it wasn't translated into any other languages except chinese. The story revolves around a great magician named Dark Schenider, and the angel that was trapped inside him. There has been another game previously release for the SNES called Bastard!! as well, but the game was a fighter. However, Bastard finally went to the psx as an RPG around 3 years ago. The game was divided into several chapters in which you must lead D.S into battle with his companions to regain his memory. D.S lost his memory after his evil side was trapped by Yoko. To regain his memory, he sets out to find Yoko, his long lost love. The gameplay is fun, in the sense that you get to use almost every character that is in the manga. And there are tons of magic move and even combined moves done by 2 or more characters that the magic skill system is fun. The exploration is kinda like DOOM, first person based. The one thing that is disappointing about the game is the lack of story line. You basically just take your characters thru stages and fight bosses and little enemies. There are a few anime cut scenes in the game, but not enough. The humor and the dirty jokes in the manga is now gone from the game. So it doesn't really feel like bastard!!. But nevertheless, a bastard fan should not miss this game, and play to the end. I only recommend this game to a bastard fan, because otherwise, you would be bored to death because you would know nothing about the characters, which basically takes the fun out of the game.
